There are some choices we can make that can get us into deeper problems. Marechera wrote this absolutely awesome book, MINDBLAST, when he was living on the Harare streets. Unfortunately it is out of print and i would have to pay at least three hundred dollars to get a copy. (I think it was a very short print run.) When you consider the context of his writing, and how he was playing cat and mouse with the government at that time, it is inspiring and chilling. The CIO were often after him (kind of like KGB but less efficient). He used to type all day and take refuge in pubs on occasion, where he might be bought drinks, after he became a minor literary sensation. But in the end he got really bad PTSD and took to drinking more and more, which probably sped his demise.
