There was a time when I could speak and
howwasitoknow that the face that you feared me exposing
was your own face
Like someone who ducks to avoid his own reflection
in the mirror
You prevented me from speaking in a way that would
Reveal you to Yourself;
Until the band got tighter
until I could nearly not breathe
and still you kept the pressure on
tightening the band around my neck
until I screamed for mercy;
Still you were Relentless.
And to think
The secret you were hiding
was your own tacit Racism;
Your Disdain for the Aboriginal race
who to you did nothing wrong?
You tightened the band around me and around me
“ex-colonial” you said
but your own sin endless
wheel of perpetuality
no end in sight.
